Make a Donation

General Image 06The Upper Room is extremely grateful for all the donations it receives, as personal donations form a key part of the charity’s income.  If you would like make a donation to the charity, there are a number of ways in which this can be done:

By cheque, payable to “The Upper Room”, and posted to The Upper Room, St Saviour Wendell Park, Cobbold Road, London, W12 9LN. When sending a normal bank cheque, if possible (ie if you pay income tax or capital gains tax at least equal to the tax we reclaim on your donation) please include a declaration letter.  Include in the letter your home address, sign and date it, and perhaps use the words “I want The Upper Room to treat the enclosed donation of £…….. as a Gift Aid donation”.  Or print off a Gift Aid declaration from www.hmrc.gov.uk/charities/appendix_b1.pdf , fill it out and enclose that with your donation.

We also accept cheques from CAF Charity Accounts and Stewardship accounts.   The money you donate from these are accounts already includes the Gift Aid tax element, so saving us precious administration time!  More information can be found at www.cafonline.org and at www.stewardship.org.uk .

You can donate online via www.mycharitypage.com , entering Upper Room in the charity search box, click on the Donate Now button to enter your details.

If you would like to donate directly to The Upper Room’s bank account, download and print off this standing order form. Once you have completed it, send it to our Finance Officer Veronica Tuke at The Upper Room (address at bottom of page), together with the Gift Aid declaration if appropriate.  Donations made in this way, direct from your bank to ours, are the most efficient way of making donations.

General Image 07Payroll giving is a simple, tax effective way of donating to The Upper Room. It is a scheme that enables you to make charitable donations straight from your gross salary (before tax has been deducted). You just need to decide whether to make a regular monthly payment or a one off gift. Then you decide how much you want to donate and tell your payroll department - they will then need to contact our Finance Officer, Veronica Tuke

Leaving a gift in your will. A will is an important legal document and it is best drawn up by a solicitor, who will ensure it is worded correctly.  Either contact your solicitor to set up or amend your will, in order to include a donation to The Upper Room.

Other Ways of Donating

Volunteering your time: Contact The Upper Room’s Project Manager, Bruce Marquart, for further information (tel: 020 8740 5688).

Take part in a sponsored event and raise funds for us!  The Just Walk 2009 takes place at Goodwood racecourse on 9th May 2009.  The 2008 Just Walk was a great first time success for The Upper Room fundraisers and we hope Just Walk 2009 will build on that, but only with your walking to help us!  For more information, see www.just-walk.co.uk .

General Image 03Donating food for use in the meals we serve.  Long life foods, such as tins of vegetables, pulses, beans, packs of pasta, stock cubes, sugar, tea, coffee are always welcome.  We run a Harvest campaign through late September and October, when local schools are incredibly generous in their food collections

Donations of clothing are always welcome: especially socks, coats, outdoor shoes; basically any item of clothing will be put to good use.

Share windfalls. Consider assigning shares to The Upper Room.  Contact your stockbroker, share registrar or www.sharegift.org for more information.

You can elect for any refund of tax resulting from your personal tax return to be sent direct to The Upper Room.  The code to use in such an application is FAF49EG, which is The Upper Room’s unique reference for this service.  More information can be found at www.hmrc.gov.uk/charities/donors/sadonate
