Who we are and what we do
The Upper Room is a registered charity that seeks to relieve suffering and overcome social disadvantage amongst the poor and vulnerable of West London.
The Upper Room has been operating in West London since 1990. The charity is based at St Saviours Wendell Park Church on the Shepherds Bush and Acton borders. The charity receives no local authority or government funding and relies entirely on donations from individuals, charities and other independent bodies. We run a broad range of project aimed at offering hope and practical support to people of all ages in our community.
UPPER ROOM PROJECTS
URMAIN A free restaurant for the homeless and destitute in West London located at the Upper Room, St Saviours Wendell Park Church, Cobbold Road, London W12 9LN. Opening hours: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 17.30 – 18.45 Saturday & Sunday 12.30 – 13.45 (Closed Monday and Friday). Project Manager: Bruce Marquart
UR4KIDS A breakfast club for the children on the White City Estate in West London located at the Church of St Michael and St George (opposite Canberra Primary School) Opening hours: 06.30 – 08.45 on school days Site Manager: William Bertrand
UR4JOBS A job club for Migrant Workers and other interested parties located at the Upper-Room, St Saviours Church, Cobbold Road. - Fridays and Mondays 13.00 - 18.00 Project Manager: Janie Kidston
UR4ART Free lessons aimed at offering self-respect and direction through practical art located at the Upper Room, Cobbold Road. Opening Hours: (to be confirmed) Art Instructor: Richard Hall
UR4FOODBANK Collections of tinned food that takes place all year round but with the largest collections during the Harvest Festival at local churches and schools from September to November. Food parcels are given to charities, families and individuals.
EMERGING PROJECTS Include community rehabilitation, prison visits and liaison with Acton Police. The collection and distribution of recycled clothes to the needy and remembrance services for those who die with no relatives or family in this country. All these are based at the Upper Room, Cobbold Road.
